Why 7.0?

We have given this product the status of the 7th version straight off because this is the most powerful, stable and convenient version of Brilliant Database in many respects excelling versions 5.0 and 5.1 in point of available options.

Major changes since v5.1

Complete support of Windows Vista.
New interface and support of Windows XP/Vista styles
New database engine. Queries are executed significantly faster comparing to the previous version, work with a remote database does not differ from work with a local database. Now you can add/remove file attachments, change images and perform any operations available at the local machine from the remote computer. The smart system of data buffering will help reduce net loading.
New system of differentiating access to the database. Now you can create users and groups of users with different access levels for your database - reading/writing/administrator. You can specify a password for each user and set a greeting screen (at logon into the system) at your discretion. You can also set access levels individually for every folder or records.
Only necessary tools for every group of users. Now you can easily set the appearance of the database and its options for different groups of users. You can specify users practically for all elements of the database (tools on the toolbar, fields, timers), for whom such elements will be visible. For example, you can create the Operators group and hide from it all fields with financial information and buttons for reports generation; or create the Managers group for whom the reports generation buttons will be accessible.

Programming the fields behaviour. At present the fields behaviour can be predefined using standard templates or scripts. For example, you can open an image for editing by double-clicking an image fields instead of a standard pop-up menu, or start scanning. When the name of a client in a usual text field is changed, he or she can be searched for in the database.
Scripts debugging has become much easier with the Debug Mode. Now you can start any script to be executed step-by-step and see how its commands influence the work of your database. You can stop execution of the script at any moment of time and see the values of variables.
Full-fledged work with several windows. Now you dont have to end work with the current record if you need to view or change data in other records. You can simply open them in a new window. For example, you can open a related record not closing the current one by simply clicking it. Or you can open a field in the order and change the number of ordered product items or view the card of the manager who has completed the order.
A new query editor allows you to create complex queries with several levels of conditions as easily as before using simple visual tools. Now you can group results of queries into collapsing subgroups and get subtotals; for example, you can group orders by countries or managers and get grouped sales sums.
Support of scrolling in all editors of the application and in the main window has been improved.
The maximum size of files stored within the database (attachments) has been increased. Now you can attach to records files sized up to 64 Mb.
Work with folders can be fully automated. A possibility to store links to folders in fields, and then use these links to create variables and use the variables in scripts and queries, has been introduced.
A new component of spell checking allows you to automatically correct errors.
